The Release of Angular 7

September 27, 2018 by Rick Hernandez Leave a Comment

This is a highly speculative post, I’m not part of the core team of Angular or contribute code to the main repository. I’m interested in knowing the official release date of Angular 7 for new projects we undertake in our consulting business.

Not knowing when a release date is happening is really difficult to plan for when an official release date is sometime between two arbitrary months in the future. I understand, no one likes being tied to a deadline or a launch date but having this information is so valuable for planning reasons.

The information I’m going to share with you is my opinion and my speculative ideas. Read the information and derive your own answers from it. Below you will see the actual release schedule from the main GitHub repository.

I’m sure the top contributors to the code base do have an official release date, vsavkin, vicb, petebacondarwin, tbosch, IgorMinar, gkalpak. Will be the ones who would know it.

Angular 6 – Official Releases

Date Release
1/24/18 6.0.0-beta.1
1/31/18 6.0.0-beta.2
2/7/18 6.0.0-beta.3
2/13/18 6.0.0-beta.4
2/21/18 6.0.0-beta.5
2/28/18 6.0.0-beta.6
3/7/18 6.0.0-beta.7
3/16/18 6.0.0-beta.8
3/21/18 6.0.0-rc.0
3/30/18 6.0.0-rc.1
4/5/18 6.0.0-rc.2
4/6/18 6.0.0-rc.3
4/12/18 6.0.0-rc.4
4/14/18 6.0.0-rc.5
4/27/18 6.0.0-rc.6
5/3/18 6.0.0 (Official Release)

Angular 7 – Official Releases

Date Release
8/2/18 7.0.0-beta.0
8/8/18 7.0.0-beta.1
8/15/18 7.0.0-beta.2
8/22/18 7.0.0-beta.3
8/29/18 7.0.0-beta.4
9/6/18 7.0.0-beta.5
9/19/18 7.0.0-beta.6

If you take a look at the actual releases you can see that Angular 7 is sitting at 7.0.0-beta.6 as of this writing. If you do a bit of math you can speculate the official release date of Angular 7 to be December 3, 2018.

This would be for the official release, not a release candidate. Remember a candidate is almost complete with only a few minor tweaks and adjustments it could become the official release.

If you look at Angular 6 releases, it took about two months of working through 7 release candidates before we could have an official date.

The question is will it be the same case for Angular 7? That’s a question that can only be answered with time. If you have your own speculations for an official release date of Angular 7 leave me a comment below.
