The way we are going to quantify how effective your portfolio site is going to be, is by how many phone calls are you getting? Are you getting emails? Are you getting follow-ups? Are you getting leads? That’s how I’m going to quantify the effectiveness.

I designed this site back in 2014 and I have learned so much about marketing. I want to go ahead and be upfront and honest here with you. I have not gotten a single lead from SaltySlopes.com, and it’s been online over three years!

Rick, well, how can you run your business if you’re not getting any single leads there?
Most of the contracts that I do work on are larger contracts. These are relationships that I already have established with an organization or a new company, those relationships that have been established there already. If the relationships are already established there, I don’t need to convince them to become my client since we know each other by this point.
Most of the clients that I have gotten from the past three years have been either by referral or approaching me to work on a specific project. Yes, my website is completely garbage and I have not gotten a single lead because of my website, I have not gotten a single customer because of my portfolio.
This is one of the main reasons why we’re going to be redesigning this. We’re going to be starting from the beginning which is going to be essentially what the outcome of the site is going to be which is going to be qualifying and getting leads that are real leads that can take some place to either close a contract or some sort of work venture together. Whatever it might be, we’re going to be doing this. We can get to that point, and that is how we are going to quantify success.
If we are not able to get leads from this… We’re not reaching that outcome, which is the whole entire point of this blog series which is going to be getting to a specific outcome of qualifying and getting leads to become clients.
