Saying you are going to quit something makes you look like a quitter. If only you worked harder, if only you woke up earlier, if only you made the right connections, if only you found the right investor, if only you stayed up longer, if only you read more books, if only you sent more messages, if only you wrote more blog posts, if only you found the right business partner.
This if only question could drive you crazy or it can drive you to a new level of achievement. Yesterday I was going through one of my old journal entries and I ran into this sentence.
I don’t want to talk about this because my ego is so tied up with my project, but my project that I’m working on right now does not have the ability to employ 100+ people. It does, however, have the ability to transform me to create a company that can employ 100+ people. – Rick H. 09/8/16
At any given moment you have everything that you need to reach the next level the only thing that’s stopping you is your self-imposed limitations. One of my favorite programmers put it this way.
In the information age, the barriers to entry into programming just aren’t there. The barriers are self-imposed. If you want to set off and go develop some grand new thing, you don’t need millions of dollars of capitalization. You need enough pizza and Diet Coke to stick in your refrigerator, a cheap PC to work on, and the dedication to go through with it. We slept on floors. We waded across rivers. -John D. Carmack
When I originally started the process of learning to create and sell digital products, I knew that this was only a means to an end to learn new skills in marketing, sales, copywriting, teaching, speaking, convincing, self-improvement, breaking limiting beliefs, entrepreneurship and the list goe’s on of all the skills that you will need to have to be successful with an online business.
This is the truth that all of those “online marketing experts” won’t tell you. Their job is to sell more courses and make bank with their sales, whatever the price might be. If that’s selling you a boat load of lies, and you are willing to buy then they are willing to sell.
Which brings me to my next point.
I can see myself in a different neighborhood with different people and most importantly when I look in the mirror a different person is staring back at me. – Rick H. 09/8/16
Today, I took a look in the mirror and a different person is staring back at me.
I’m no longer that awkward shy person that I once was.
I have failed and learn and kept going with all of my online efforts to sell and market my digital product. I feel like I have finally reached a point where I have collected enough information about the landscape to make an informed decision of what to do next.
It’s not going to be about creating more courses and selling more stuff. No instead of all that, I’m going to be creating real things for real people and help them to become more.
All of the efforts that I have put into this blog I could have easily been putting it towards my consulting business and by this point, I would probably be employing countless people and be growing at a good rate but back in 2014 I decided to travel down this path so here I am.
I did my research and listened to my audience and it’s time to move on to my next big project.
80% of all new blog posts are going to be going towards this one goal: Grow and achieve more with my company, reach more clients, complete more projects, ship more software but most importantly create tools that others see value in.
I thrive in the space where I am needed, I thrive where others are there to give me the opportunity to succeed, I thrive where everyone else around me is reaching for more.
Specifically for me, that’s dealing with other businesses where they have real problems with real timelines and real budgets not with dealing with a customer who is worried about spending $300 dollars on a course that could change their life.
I put a huge amount of effort into making something amazing, and I believe that I have achieved this goal. With over 100+ paying customers and over 500,000+ views on YouTube. I tried to create something that would help others in a meaningful way, but due to my goals and outcomes that I want to achieve, this path is no longer the one that I want to travel.
So am I quitting?
The short answer is… no.
I’m just shifting my focus, into more meaningful work. Don’t worry though… I’m sure there will always be someone there to tell you The best programming languages to learn in XXXX year.
Talk to you soon,
Rick H.
I always had a passion for the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and I knew I wanted to do something to make a difference in the world. I just didn’t know where to start. I was an immigrant in a new country, grew up in a tough environment, and wasn’t sure how… Read More
