Disadvantages:

No health insurance
Constantly be looking for new clients
Multidisciplinary personality
Working alone
Self-motivated
Easily get distracted
No hourly wage
Some of the disadvantages as a freelancer are that you might now know where to start, when you need to get paid. If you can not take rejection more than likely freelancing is just not for you, the reason for this is you might never really know when and where your next paycheck will be coming from
No Health insurance
Constantly be looking for new clients
Making at a constantly changing environment that requires someone too constantly be looking for clients/customers in a never ending cycle of communicating with clients. If this type of thing scare you stay away from freelancing.
Multidisciplinary personality
It require a person to be both self-motivated well disciplined and a really well balanced person that can both write “code” and understand the “client” so at times when you are working its going to require a person that is a go getter which goes out and just gets the customers and up-sells there service. But connect the job is received its going to require and introvert that sits down and deeply analyze the problem and comes up with a creative solution to the problem.
Working alone
If you are the type of person that loves being around customers and there problems or enjoying having a coworkers and talking around the water cooler then you are going to be miserable as a freelancer.
Self-motivated
Being a freelancer requires to tie everything together and really question everything you know about yourself. You no longer have a structure that most companies provide to there employees, no one is telling you what to do dead lines are not set for you. Bringing up a better question of how you want to run freelancing gigs.
Easily get distracted
This is a major down fall why people fail at freelancing due to the fact that they can not deny people there time, since you are a freelancer you time will be strictly tied to how much money you make and where you take your ideas and how they flourish.
Work culture
Will Power
In a never ending changing career field of a freelancer you have to answer questions that require a large amount of will power, this mean you must become excellent at making decisions and following threw with them. Some of the questions you have to answer as a freelancer are pricing yourself the right value, pacing your self in projects, actively getting new clients, marketing your self and once you have answered this questions you have to be constantly be testing and checking how your work flow is working and if its not then it would be time to do some maintenance. But why are you doing all of this work? Hopefully you choose to work on projects that bring you satisfaction to help you fuel back up your will power. You will need it!
Project Control
Being you own boss gives you the power to control what type of projects you take on but also give you the power to control the client you decide to work with. Project control give you the flexibility of working on the right jobs at the right time so if you feel like something that is more important that need to get done, you can prioritize on how and when it gets done. At times if you take on project that require you to subcontract work or acquire a new partner are the hard questions that tend to get avoided causing you to loose complete control over the work flow of the projects, now in order for you keep work-flow that you desire questions will have to be answered one way or another.
Power Distribution
Having to much work? Or being overworked? Sometimes its important for power distribution to be used in projects, a good way of telling if this needs to be applied to projects you take on are if you are using more time then you have scheduled your self to work on certain projects, If this decision is chosen make sure you advice the client and collaborate so every one that works on it is on the same page. Then jobs and can get distributed to the contractors that get on board.
Personal Values
Being a freelancer requires you to really test your personal values, once those are found you can easily hunt out your target customers because you and that organization are in the same wave of communication creating an easily communication channels to open making you a more productive freelancer and over all motivate you to continue the work you do.
Mission Statement
You should write out a mission statement that sums up everything you stand for in one to two sentence that re-evaluates your personal values, and encourages you to complete your work faster and easily. Being a freelancer will be 10x better if you have a mission that you want to complete, because you are no longer working for some one. You are working for yourself , a mission statement will create a purpose for you to complete.
Office Decision
Weather you choose to work from home or have an office you have to decide one of them? They both have there advantages and disadvantages, choosing one from another can make or break your freelancing career.
Home:
Some of the advantages of working from home are that its supper cheap, meaning you don’t have to pay any office space or bills. Give you the ability not to travel saving you the commute that you do everyday to your job. But being home is not all sunshine and flower everyday some of your possible clients might see this as unprofessional. If you don’t allow a specific part of you house to be used as an office this could cause another major draw back causing huge amounts of clutter in you office and making work a hot mess, and last but not least you are home and at work all the same, meaning that you have to be balanced in how you manage this time from being at home relaxing to being at home working, requires to separate ability to switch from one sate to another.
Office: Having and office gives you a couple of benefits from looking professional in from your clients to having the ability to say “I AM OFF WORK!!” this switch from leaving work to going home is essential to unwind at the end of the day. Some of the downfalls of having an office space is that it requires you to pay rent every month and at last you will have to commute some how to this new office from walking to driving both of this require time and money.
Gear
Choosing the right gear from the wrong one is an easily made mistake by any one. Some time and consideration in buying the right gear can go a long way here is my top 5 must have.
Chair
Things to think about when purchasing a chair is to ask you self this question. How long will I be sitting on it? If your answer is more then 8 hours take some time and research the chairs they can go up to the thousands, but sometimes the best way to find out if the chair is right for you is to simply go and try the chair and see if it complies with your body type. Although sometimes a hybrid solution can be made from siting to standing so that should be considered when choosing a type of desk.
Monitor:
choosing the right monitor can be a tricky situation, things to take to consideration is at how the monitor is going to used, if you choose to have a 60 inch monitor you must have the infrastructure to allow you to work with that type of monitor, but in most cases what you want to look for is a screen that is easy to look at for long period of time. This that will determine the monitor will be the type of office you have from the space that is available to work with.
Location
Working where you want to be could be a good and bad thing, hopefully if you have a good
Work flow this will not be an issue. Things to considerate is having some windows for the
sun to shine and it’s also nice to have plenty of room to move around and get distracted
from one task to the next.
Mattress
This is by far one of the most expensive things you will have to purchase, I know what you might be thinking a mattress? Really? YES really! Its a must to any freelancer not only because you need most of the energy you can gather but also the ability to be well rested and have a pleasant attitude towards how things work. But remember to keep this as a secrete you don’t want every one knowing how you can work for so long with so much energy.
Food
This is by far one of my favorite parts of freelancing, if you no longer strained to a company that means that you no longer are forced to eat what is usually encouraged by the organization meaning you can start having a effect right away on your health from being strongly fit to being overweight and out of controlled once again this comes back the values of the self. This is why its so IMPORTANT to have your mission statement handy to remind you what type of work culture you want to create because we all know it the food you eat has a major impact on the behaviors you have from choosing to drink water to having that red bull next to you. Your location will play a major roll on the types of food that you will be eating by far one of my favorite dishes are veggie dishes so for me this is essential think about what is important to you and try and get as close as possible to that place to provide your body with the right type of energy to empower you to create some awesome projects.
Some of this might be controversial but I strongly believe are an essential must have when you work as a freelancer.
