Setting up SNMP on a cisco device
  1. Start SNMP service on router, no command is needed for this
  2. Create a CAC (community access control)  for SNMP (simple Network Management Protocol) This will give public read-only access.
  3. snmp-server community public ro

  4. Get some basic system information, type this command:

  5. snmp-server contact yourname

To setup location of device type this command:
    snmp-server location place

  6. Save your setup
    exit
    write memory

This should be similar processes with different type’s of routers.
