This is going to be a good one. We’re going to be talking about how you can create a portfolio site from scratch.
The reason why I wanted to write this blog post is specifically on how to create a portfolio site, it’s because this is a question that I get asked all the time.
Rick, How can I do what you do? – Basic Person
There are people out there that want to be full-time freelancers or become a software consultant like I am, essentially start their own business and they want to know how they can actually get started doing it. I’m going to be showing you here with this series of blog post on how to actually accomplish this.
I’ve been a software consultant for over three years, and I’m actually going to be updating my current site to reflect some of the things that I’ve learned over the past couple of years.
When I originally launched the site, it was back in 2014. I went ahead and put up all my portfolio pieces that I had from past clients, and from school.
I put it all together for the site and launched it back in 2014. The site is really simple. You can go ahead and take a look at it at SaltySlopes.com. You’ll see that there’s only, a couple portfolio items, there’s a description, there’s a YouTube video, and there’s a call to action to get my contact information.
You can either contact me with a contact form or phone number, or my email address. There’s some social network stuff there like Facebook and Twitter. You can also head down to the bottom, and see the blog.
When I started my consulting business three years ago to this day many new things have changed and the site is getting pretty old. I decided that I’m going to go ahead and give it a brand new update with all of the new things that I have learned over the past couple of years to help me better qualify and get some new leads that will turn into clients through the process of reading my portfolio.
The entire series of this blog post is going to be based on this. If that’s of interest to you, definitely go ahead and follow all the blog posts.
You’re going to learn a ton! -Rick H.
Who should be reading this? You should be reading this if you want to create a portfolio site. The portfolio site that I’m going to be creating here is going to be on how to get some clients through your portfolio site. What kind of portfolio? Well, I’m a software developer. I do software consulting, and that’s what we’re going to be talking about.
If you have a different kind of business, either a photography business, a videography business, or some sort of contractor work some of the things that I’m going to be writing about might not apply directly to what you do. You might have to tweak things around for your specific situation.
Most of the work that I do work on is contracts and bigger projects. These are usually projects that have a larger budget than ten thousand dollars.
If you’re thinking of creating a portfolio site and you want to go ahead and sell some of the photographs or some other form of digital art that you’ve created, whatever it might be, that process is completely different than what I’m going to be showing you here. Again, the process that I’m going to be showing you here is how to sell a high ticket premium consulting service.
We’re going to be going through redesigning my old site and transforming it into a client making machine. There’s a lot of things out there that people are going to tell you. I’m actually going to show you. We’re actually going to get on the phone and talk to clients. We’re going to do the whole entire thing here. It’s going to be pretty EPIC!
Talk to you nex time,
Rick H.
